American
History X

Starring: Edward Norton, Edward Furlong
Directed by: Tony Kaye
Rated R
Synopsis: When a reformed skin head Derek (Edward Norton) is
released from prison after serving only three years for killing two black
men in self defense, he finds his younger brother Danny (Edward Furlong)
has fallen into the same bad crowd of white supremacists. This film
centers on Derek's fight to keep his family together and put the past
behind him.
My thoughts: This movie was very heartfelt and told an excellent
story, and is something that everyone should see once in a life
time.
Scorecard:
Acting: Edward
Norton by far carried this movie. He was nominated for an Academy Award
for his role. Very deservedly also. The acting was brilliant, and really
can't be justified with words. (1)
Direction: I
don't think that director Tony Kaye ever made a movie after this one. Go
out on top I suppose. The direction of this movie was perfect. (1)
Story: This was
a great story that had to be told. It is graphic and sad, but it was an
excellent story. (1)
Expectations:
The sad thing about this movie, I expected the world from this movie,
while I wasn't disappointed, it just didn't surprise me. (1/2)
Boring?: There
was nothing boring about this movie per-se, because it told a very
intriguing story, and it really had me hooked for the entire movie. (1)
Final Score: 4 1/2
out of 5
Final Thoughts: If you haven't already seen this movie,
you should go out and find it. Be warned, there is a lot of violence and a
lot of swearing, and this movie touches on some very controversial
subjects, but the acting was phenomenal and the story was well written. Absolutely
worth a look, and personally one of my favorite movies.
