A Nightmare on Elm Street

 Starring: Robert Englund

 Directed by: Wes Craven

 Rated R

 Genre: Horror

 Original Release Year: 1984

Synopsis: There is a thin line from reality and your dream world. On that line is where HE lives. 1....2...Freddy's Coming' For You...

My Thoughts: The first of MANY, it is true, the first is always the best.

   Scorecard

Acting- Heather Langenkamp plays Nancy a teenager that is haunted by dreams. She does a pretty good job as the frightened yet headstrong teenager and actually pulls off a believable character. But the actor that steals the show is easily Robert Englund who puts on the Fred Kruger make-up for the first time. Another actor that does a very good job in his character is a very young Johnny Depp who plays Glen the boyfriend of Nancy. Overall the acting was surprisingly good, especially for a horror movie. (1)

Direction- Wes Craven pulls off a seemingly impossible task of making this film make sense. Craven is known for his stretching reality, and that is exactly what went on here. I was very impressed with the way the story flowed and the acting Craven got out of his actors. The ending sucked, but that isn't the directors fault. (1)

Story- I just wrote down that the ending sucked...that would go under this category. I loved the idea of a maniac attacking people in their dreams, only for everything in their dreams to be a reality. I did not like the idea of the ending though. A dream within a dream within yet another dream...make sense? I didn't think so. (1/2)

Expectations- When you have seen as many horror movies as I have, you expect everything to be incredibly bad. Shockingly, everything was actually very good. Good acting, good direction, and a pretty good story all lead this film to surpass any and all expectations I had for this movie. (1)

Boring?- This category is tough. With a running time of just about 90 minutes, it is really hard to be all that boring, but there were some parts that dragged, and some scenes they just pounded to death. But overall the movie was not all that boring. (1/2)

Final Score: 4 out of 5

Final Thoughts: I am just as shocked as you. A Nightmare on Elm Street pulls out a 4 star in Jason's eyes. I was entertained with this movie and I was very impressed with everything that I got with the final product. If you get the chance you should seek out the InfiniFilm DVD, there is a lot of extra goodies on there. I warn you though...this is only a movie for true horror fans, if you are just a casual fan, or don't like the genre at all, be warned, it may not be for you.
