A Nightmare on Elm Street 2:
Freddy's Revenge
Starring: Robert Englund
Directed by: Jack Sholder
Rated R
Genre: Horror
Original Release Year: 1985
Synopsis: Freddy is back, this
time he enlists the help of a teenage boy to help him do his bidding.
My Thoughts: A sequel was
needed after the bad ending of the first film. But seriously...what were
the filmmakers thinking with this movie?
Scorecard
Acting-
Mark Patton plays Jesse, a teenager that he and his family has just moved
into the old house from the first film. Patton does a pedestrian job
in his character and seems to not be all that interested in his character.
I think that the best acting comes from two people and they carried this
film. The first was only for a short time, Marshall Bell played the creepy
coach in this film and every time he was on screen there was just
something about him that really seemed to creep you out, then the next is
of course Robert Englund who reprises his role of Freddy Kruger and again
does a pretty good job. But when the main protagonist isn't doing a good
job, the movie will not succeed. (1/2)
Direction-
Wes Craven does not want anything to do with this film. So New Line gets
Jack Sholder. WHO? you may sit there asking yourself...exactly...Sholder
was not ready for a film of this caliber. There was nothing good about the
direction of the film. Everything bounced around, acting wasn't too good
and little to no flow spells failure. (0)
Story-
This is the reason we did not see Wes Craven return. He and tons of others
thought it was a terrible idea for Freddy Kruger basically having a human
puppet doing his bidding. It was a bad idea and it did not work. There
were way too many flaws and holes for this story to get any rating. (0)
Expectations-
I was expecting this movie to be just a tad worse than the original,
sequels are usually worse than the original, but geez, this was terrible.
This was worse than I was expecting. (0)
Boring?-
This movie was a double whammy. It was both boring and over the top. This
film had a running time of about 85 minutes and you feel every single
minute of the film, and that is NOT a good thing. (0)
Final Score: 1/2
out of 5
Final Thoughts: Well, that's
not a good way to continue a franchise. There was really nothing redeeming
about this film, it was a terrible movie by itself, let alone a sequel. I
say avoid this film at all costs, even if you are a fan of this franchise,
don't bother seeing this one again, unless you like the creepy
coach...then watch it only for him.
