This film couldn't be any worse than the disaster of the second...or could
it?
Scorecard
Acting-
This film is loaded with decent acting. Some future heavyweights are
actually in this film too. The young girl Kristen played by Patricia
Arquette does a pretty good job in her character. Heather Langenkamp
returns from the first film to reprise her role as Nancy and also does a
very good job. Laurence Fishburn can be seen for a moment or two as an
orderly in the hospital. But of course, the person that carries the load
of the film is Robert Englund as Freddy. I was pleasantly surprised with
the pretty good acting in this film. (1)
Direction-
Chuck Russell would later go on to make really good films (Collateral,
Scorpion King, The Mask) but sadly, this wasn't his best job. He did good
get acting out of his actors, but that's the only good thing I can say
about it. Russell did not seem to know what he was doing, he had a pretty
good story to follow, but for some odd reason he did not follow the
straight line from beginning to end, he had to add some bumps in the road.
(1/2)
Story-
This is perhaps one of the better written stories in the franchise. A girl
is attacked in her dreams, and her parents seem that she had attempted
suicide, so she is put into a crazy house, then all hell breaks loose when
Freddy Kruger begins to attack everyone. I liked the addition of Nancy,
bringing her back was the right idea. This story had good flow and
actually made some sense. (1)
Expectations-
After the terrible second film, I still had hope that this would be
decent. It was. This film met any expectations I had for it, but it did
not surpass what I was hoping for it. (1/2)
Boring?-
This is one of the longer films in the franchise, with a running time of
almost 100 minutes, there is bound to be dull spots, and there were.
Sadly, there were a little too many dull spots to keep the film from
sinking, and that is really what hurt this movie. (0)
Final
Score:
3 out of 5
Final
Thoughts: A 3 star? WOW, I am shocked. This film was good, but
I did not expect this to get a three star. I was very satisfied with what
I got out of this film. If you are a fan of horror movie, you should see
this one, if you are a fan of the franchise you should see this one again
(most likely you already have seen it if you are a fan of the franchise)
but, this is only a film for the horror folks out there.
