Starring: Robert Englund

My Thoughts: Wes
Craven returns to the dying franchise to give it one last boost.
Scorecard
Acting-
Heather Langenkamp returns as herself playing her first role Nancy. If you
are not confused you get a cookie! Langenkamp over acts everything and I
know she was supposed to, but it was one of those overacting jobs that
gives you a headache it was so bad. Robert Englund returns as Freddy
Kruger, but you would not know it, during the credits Freddy Kruger is
cast as himself. Which was pretty funny. And Wes Craven as himself was
actually not too bad. Overall the acting in this movie was average at
best. (1/2)
Direction-
When you are making a movie within a movie it has to be incredibly
confusing and hard to do. Wes Craven pulls it off. I was very impressed
with the way Craven made this film flow. There was not a lot of greatness,
but again, it worked very nicely for what Craven was doing. Again, it was
just average. (1/2)
Story-
Wes Craven decides to make one last Nightmare movie, but during the
filming of this film Freddy Kruger comes to life. While it isn't the best
written story, it actually played out pretty well. The cast oversold
everything, but it worked for this movie, this whole movie was supposed to
be over the top. (1)
Expectations-
When I heard that Craven was returning to make one last Nightmare movie, I
had my reservations, but I was hoping that it wouldn't stink up the joint
like the last few. I was happy with what I got. It was not the greatest
job by Craven, but it did not stink up the joint either. (1/2)
Boring?-
Like I said earlier, this film was way overdone. While it really worked
for this film, there were quite a few parts that really had you rolling
your eyes because it was a little too overdone. This film had a running
time of 115 minutes or so, so of course with a running time like that for
a horror movie, you are going to get lots of slow spots and lots of down
time, and we did get a lot of them, but the film still flowed nicely so I
cannot deduct the full star. (1/2)
Final Score: 3
out of 5
Final Thoughts:
This was a good way to end the franchise. Now lets just hope the
filmmakers do not decide to bring this franchise back. I was very
impressed with everything this film had to offer. Again though, if you are
not a fan of the franchise or the genre, do not see this because you will
not understand it.
