Scorecard
Acting-
Mel Gibson plays William Wallace a Scottish warrior hell bent on having
his land free from the rule of England. He does a very convincing job as
the crazy Scotsman. This is seriously his finest performance of his
career. Sophie Marceau as Princess Isabelle was very well done, overall
the cast altogether did an awesome job. (1)
Direction-
There is a reason Mel Gibson won best director for this movie. While the
story itself was a little slow, the direction was impeccable. The
direction of the movie flowed very well, and he got excellent performances
from his actors, including himself. (1)
Story-
A Scotsman by the name of William Wallace is trying to lead a rebellion
against the English rule in Scotland after his wife was killed by English Soldiers.
While this movie is loosely based on the true story of William Wallace, it
gets the point across, the only downfall is that the story is VERY
detailed, a little too much in fact that it made the movie slow down some,
but not enough to really hurt this category. (1)
Expectations-
Who doesn't expect greatness from this film? This movie is perhaps one of
the greatest films ever made. I was very impressed with everything, but
sadly I was also expecting greatness. (1/2)
Boring?-
I said this earlier, this movie is not that boring, it is
just very very detailed, and that made it sort of boring. With a running
time of just under 180 minutes (that's three hours people), there are a
few down times. If this movie was cut down to maybe 150 minutes, this
could be an excellent movie, but alas, it just has to settle for
greatness. (1/2)
Final
Score: 4
out of 5
Final Thoughts:
This movie is seriously one of the best movies ever made. There is a lot
of awe inspiring backdrops and so really cool action scenes and a lot of
love for the ladies out there. This is one of the few movies that I would
say that you have to see at least once in your lifetime.
