Pirates
of the Caribbean : Dead Man's Chest
Starring: Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley
Directed By: Gore Verbinski
Rated PG-13
Synopsis: Will and Elizabeth
are condemned to die for helping Captain Jack Sparrow. Will is offered a
deal he really couldn't refuse.
My thoughts: This movie was pretty good, but was suffering
because it dragged a little. I have seen this movie twice thus far, still
enjoy the movie, its just not as fantastic as it really should have been.
Scorecard:
Acting - There was no
problem with the acting here. Not being a Johnny Depp fan myself, I had no
problem with his overacting here. Stellan Skarsgard (Bootstrap Bill) did a
very good job in his limited role. And then the person who stole the movie
was Bill Nighy as Davy Jones, he did a fantastic job, and I was very
impressed, while actually being completely computer generated, very
interesting stuff. (1)
Direction - This is
where the movie hurt some. The cliffhanger ending, and the way it got
there was slow and not very graceful. The direction really kind of took
away from the whole movie. (1/2)
Story - The story was
well written, but the problem I had is the Jack Sparrow character had way
too many one-liners, and that kind of hurt it. I really enjoyed the
addition to Davy Jones, and was very well done. This movie was centered
around Jack Sparrow, and it really shouldn't have been, that's what I
really think took away from the movie some, but not really enough to hurt
the rating. (1)
Expectations - I
loved the first movie. I didn't think that this one would live up to the
hype it has generated. It was right about what I had expected. (1/2)
Boring? - The first
hour of the movie drags. It's really a shame too, because that's the least
desirable place to have a movie drag, right from the get go. But once you
get through that...it turns out to be a pretty exciting movie. (1/2)
Final Score:
3 1/2 out of 5
Final Thoughts:
While this movie isn't the greatest movie I have seen over this
summer. It was still all in good fun. It has made tons of money in the box
office (and I think deservedly), Don't let the 3 1/2 star fool you, you
should still go and see the movie, you wont be that disappointed.
