My Thoughts:
This movie started out so incredibly great, and twenty minutes or so into
the film, it took a brutal nose dive...why you may ask...keep reading.
Scorecard
Acting-
Pierce Brosnan returns for his final James Bond film and
again does a very good job in the character, he seems to be very
comfortable with the Bond guise, then everything falls flat once the Bond
girl comes into the picture. Halle Berry plays Jinx a CIA operative out to
help Bond, and ruins the entire franchise. Having Berry play such a
crucial role in this film ruined the entire Bond feel. (0)
Direction-
Lee Tamahori gives a stab at directing a Bond film, and actually does a
pretty decent job, the movie flowed nicely, but he did not get great
performances out of all his actors, and that really hurt the quality of
the film. (1/2)
Story-
A North Korean is assumed killed, so he goes and changes his looks in
order to be more undercover so he has a better chance to take over the
world. It sounds like a bad Pinky and the Brain episode. This movie was
crucial in the demise of the Bond Franchise, and this story with the Jinx
character playing a HUGE part in this story really took away from Bond.
She was really unneeded. (0)
Expectations-
I was hoping that this movie would be awesome, just for the fact that all
the previews made it look really cool, this movie was really good for the
first 20-30 minutes, but then jumped off a cliff in a downward spiral once
the Jinx character showed up. (0)
Boring?-
This movie was very boring and seemed like it ran for a long time, even
with a running time of only 130 minutes or so. I really enjoyed the first
part of the film when Bond was captured in North Korea, it really worked
well for this film, but once that was done, it fell flat. But I am going
to give it a half star just for the first few minutes of the movie because
the fact that it was fun to watch. (1/2)
Final Score:
1 out of 5
Final Thoughts:
While this movie was not the worst Bond film ever made, it certainly was
close to it. There was not a whole lot of enjoyment I got out of watching
this movie, except for the first couple of scenes. I really don't
recommend this movie even if you are a Bond fan, there was just something
about that Jinx character played by Halle Berry that made me really hate
this movie, because if you take her out of the equation, this film would
have been pretty good.
