For Your Eyes Only
Starring: Roger Moore Directed by: John Glen Rated PG Genre: Action Original Release Year: 1981 Synopsis: When the Automatic Targeting and Attack Communicator (ATAC) a device used to help coordinate ships in the royal navy is lost at sea, it is up to James Bond to find it and make sure that no other superpower gets their hands on it and use it against the UK. My Thoughts: After Moonraker could this movie be half as good as it should be? Maybe. Scorecard Acting- Roger Moore again returns as James Bond (luckily, he actually wasn't scheduled to be Bond again.) and does another pretty good job, and thanks to the incredible direction, Roger Moore gives his best Bond performance yet, as this Bond is deeper and a little more serious. (1) Direction- John Glen gets promoted from film editor to director for this movie and does a very good job. There are a few things that a lot of Bond fans don't like him for, as he took away a lot of the big time action and toned down some of the gadgets, but in my eyes he did an excellent job because he made the character deeper and actually made it seem like Bond was human. (1) Story- First off, the movie starts out with James Bond laying flowers on his wife's grave, that scene alone made this movie good. Continuity has always been a problem with Bond and right off the bat we get something from like 6 movies ago, and that was amazing. The story is about a little device that is lost at sea and needs to be found fast before it falls into the wrong hands. While it isn't a very exciting story, it was actually written well enough to really keep you entertained. (1) Expectations- I was actually hoping that this movie would be HUGE after Moonraker, sadly, it fell short of what I was expecting it to be. (0) Boring?- There were some very slow parts and some parts that you wish wouldn't have been taken out. The movie flowed pretty nicely, but with a running time of about 125 minutes you actually wish that there would have been a little more. (1/2) Final Score: 3 1/2 out of 5 Final Thoughts: I really wished that I didn't expect this movie to be as cool as Moonraker, just for the fact that this movie was pretty deep, I see now how good this movie was in its own right. You really shouldn't see this movie unless you have seen On Her Majesty's because there is some continuity that really hits you, and kind of jerks some tears, its worth watching even if you aren't a huge fan of Bond movies.
