From Russia with Love

 Starring: Sean Connery

 Directed by: Terrence Young

 Rated PG

 Genre: Action

 Original Release Year: 1963

Synopsis: James Bond is off to Istanbul Turkey to help a Russian Corporal Tatiana Romanova defect.

My Thoughts: This is one of the best reviewed Bond films, and I can understand why, this film was incredibly good.

   Scorecard

Acting- Sean Connery is back as James Bond and does an even better job here than he did in Dr. No , everything he did in this movie just clicked perfectly. There is also another acting milestone for this film, Desmond Llewelyn who played Q makes his first appearance in a Bond film and goes on to be in every Bond movie until his death in 1999. (1)

Direction- The direction picked up a lot in this film. Everything flowed very nicely and the director seemed a little more comfortable with what he was trying to accomplish. (1)

Story- This story was a little thin. James Bond is lured to Istanbul to try and help a Russian defect and he ends up obtaining a secret decoder. There was nothing great about this story, but it was good enough to keep the movie flowing. (1/2)

Expectations- I really was expecting this to be just like the first movie, but I was surprised with what I got. This met and surpassed most expectations. This was acted better than the first, this was directed better than the first, while it did not have a better story than the first, it seemed to flow a lot more. (1)

Boring?- This movie was not boring by any means. There were a few slow parts, but those parts were when some intense story telling was going on. (1)

   Final Score: 4 1/2 out of 5

Final Thoughts: I really understand why Sean Connery said that this was the best Bond movie. I really enjoyed everything about this movie, it flowed very nicely, and there was some fun stuff in it too. While the story may have been lacking some stuff, it was really hard to notice it with all the different things going on. This is definitely one movie you should see, even if you aren't a Bond fan, this is a good movie to watch.
