Goldfinger
Starring: Sean Connery Directed by: Guy Hamilton Rated PG Genre: Action Original Release Year: 1964 Synopsis: The evil Auric Goldfinger is out to break into Fort Knox, and James Bond is brought aboard to find out Goldfinger's plans. My Thoughts: This movie is AWESOME! One of my personal favorite Bond movies, there was tons of great stuff everywhere in this movie. Scorecard Acting- Sean Connery returns as James Bond and does another great job. Everything Connery did as James Bond was cool, but in my opinion the man that stole the show was Gert Frobe who played Goldfinger, he did an unbelievable job as the creepy villain (he was #49 on AFI's best villains list.) Everyone pulled their own weight and it turned out to be phenomenal. (1) Direction- This was Guy Hamilton's first Bond movie, and he seemed to be a natural at it. Everything flowed very nicely and there were few if any real down times. I thought he did an excellent job, but for some odd reason, he wasn't brought back for the next Bond movie. (1) Story- I always like the idea of people breaking in to Fort Knox, that's always a fun premise, but this was more than that. It was about someone that is always cheating to win. I personally think that if it weren't for the cast, this story really wouldn't have gone anywhere. The cast and crew really carried a generic story into greatness. (1) Expectations- After From Russia With Love, I had high expectations for this movie, and it didn't let me down, but it really didn't surpass the expectations I had for it. (1/2) Boring?- Like I said earlier, there were few down times, and the down times that were there didn't really effect the flow of the film, there was nothing incredibly boring about this movie, everything turned out nicely, in fact with a running time of 105 minutes, I was actually wanting a little more. (1) Final Score: 4 1/2 out of 5 Final Thoughts: This movie has "Greatness" written all over it. A cool villain, a decent story, great direction, everything about this movie was just really good, but the problem with this film unlike Russia, you kind of have to be a Bond fan to like this movie. Not that I am saying you need to be, I just think that you would enjoy it a lot more if you were.
