Live and let Die

 Starring: Roger Moore

 Directed by: Guy Hamilton

 Rated PG

 Genre: Action

 Original Release Year: 1973

Synopsis: British secret agents are mysteriously being killed and it is up to James Bond to find out why and to stop it from continuing.

My Thoughts: Where to begin on this craptacular movie...The problem with this film is that it was slap dead in the middle of the TERRIBLE blacksploitation era of film making (ie:blackula), and it shows, unfortunately.

   Scorecard

Acting- Roger Moore takes over the helm of James Bond, and does a terrible job in his first run as Bond. Personally, I don't think that it was his fault that he turned out to be terrible, this story would have even sunk Sean Connery. There was no good acting from anyone involved, even when the "B-Acting" parts in this film were taking place, it was bad. (0)

Direction- Guy Hamilton tries his hardest to turn crap into gold, and what he comes out with is gold looking crap. There was little flow to this movie and nothing to really keep you entertained throughout this entire film, bad acting accompanied by an even worse story is just disastrous. (0)

Story- I do not mind the premise of the film. Secret Agents are being killed mysteriously, and it is up to one man to find out what is happening and to stop it. That is perfectly fine, but when they added all the crazy drug stuff, EVERYTHING went down hill. This is where it shows the blacksploitation of the film, everything has to do with the black people, we have black mobsters-pimps-tarot card readers- and even a crazy voodoo people. This is the only Bond film to deal with supernatural stuff, and it was not good at all. (0)

Expectations- I was whole-heartedly expecting something decent to watch, and it was to a point. Most of the film was at least fun to watch, even if it was bad by movie standards. (1/2)

Boring?- This film, like ALL films from this era were boring to the point of ridiculousness. There were some fun parts to the movie, but overall the film was really lacking anything to keep you wanting more, (or Moore, whichever you prefer.) I will give it a half star, because there were some at least decent parts that made sense. (1/2)

Final Score: 1 out of 5

Final Score: I loved the continuity of this film, they went back to other films and mentioned things, but this movie failed miserably because it wasn't James Bond vs. An Evil Group of Madmen Trying To Take Over the World (AEGMTTTOW?) (so I am not good at acronyms) this was James Bond vs. a scummy drug lord and there was nothing really great about this drug lord either, that's why this movie was so bad, that and they had to make EVERYTHING about the black people, which is what lots of movies did during this time (hence the name blacksplotation). I do not recommend you see this movie even if you are a Bond fan, it is not worth your time. Go see something else...like maybe perhaps the next Bond movie...
