Lord of War

 Starring: Nicolas Cage, Ethan Hawke

 Directed by: Andrew Niccol

 Rated R

 Original Release Year: 2005

 Genre: Action/Suspense

Synopsis: An arms dealer is chased throughout Africa by a young Interpol agent relentless on catching him.

My Thoughts: This film was great is so many ways. This is one of the few movies that you really don't need to think about anything, you just need to sit back and enjoy the ride.

   Scorecard

Acting- Nicolas Cage stars as Yuri Orlov a very smart arms dealer, that starts off very small and thanks to the USSR breaking up, becomes on of the biggest arms dealers in the world. Nicolas Cage does a good job in being cold hearted at times, but shows signs of humanity as he cares a lot for his wife and brother. Ethan Hawke plays Jack Valentine a Interpol agent that is on the trail of Yuri. While Hawke didn't do a great job acting per se, he did a good enough job in the role that he was given. The only complaint I happen to have is that at some times the actors seemed wooden, there were a few moments that they were just trying to get through the scene and move onto something else, and that sort of hurt the feel of the movie. (1/2)

Direction- Andrew Niccol also directed another of my favorite movies Gattaca  , Niccol did an very good job in keeping straight to the story and having his actors do fine jobs and keeping the main character more than just one dimensional. This movie flowed very well and there were a lot of amazing sequences and some great backdrops. (1)

Story- The story wasn't great, but at least it wasn't paper thin. It is a typical story with a twist, bad guy becomes humanized and good guy trying to catch the bad guy, but the twist is, you sympathize more with the bad guy than you do with the good guy. While I really don't have a problem with that, they way they made the characters out to be was very generic and nothing special was added to them. (1/2)

Expectations- This movie surpassed any and all expectations I originally had for this film. I was expecting this movie to be dull and full of plot holes, while there were a few holes, there weren't as many as I thought there would be, and this movie was far from dull. (1)

Boring?- This movie will keep you entertained for the entire two hours it is on your screen. There is a good enough story to keep you wanting more, there is some awe inspiring scenery and there are guns being shot left and right...what more could you ask for? (1)

Final Score: 4 out of 5

Final Thoughts: This was a very entertaining movie to watch, plain and simple. I warn you right now though, this movie is more of a guy flick than anything else, I am not saying that women wont enjoy it, I am just saying that guys will enjoy it a lot more.
