Moonraker

 Starring: Roger Moore

 Directed by: Lewis Gilbert

 Rated PG

 Original Release Year: 1979

 Genre: Action

Synopsis: A space shuttle has been stolen right off the top of a plane, it is up to James Bond to find out where it went and why it was stolen.

My Thoughts: While the story itself is a complete rehash of other Bond movies (evil genius tries to take over the world then remake it in his own image.) There was something cool about this film. This movie has my personal favorite Bond villain, Sir Hugo Drax.

   Scorecard

Acting- Roger Moore is back as James Bond once again and fits the role now to a 'T'. Personally, I think that the show stealer is easily Michael Lonsdale who plays Hugo Drax was incredibly good. The overall acting in this film was awesome. (1)

Direction- Lewis Gilbert returns for his last Bond film, and does a pretty good job. A few shaky parts and a few parts that really have you scratching your head, overall the direction was good, but not great like it should have been. (1/2)

Story- This movie is basically a complete rehash of other Bond movies, but with one difference, it takes place in space. Hugo Drax steals a space shuttle to get up to a space station his company has made in order to blow up the world and start a "perfect race" with him as the head. Drax was just too cool not to give this category at least a half star. (1/2)

Expectations- I was actually expecting bad things from this movie, I thought that it was going to be another Spy who Loved Me, but was glad it wasn't. While it did have the same general ideas as Spy it wasn't the same, it was cooler, and spaceier (if that is a word!) (1)

Boring?- Sadly this movie suffers from the "Overdone Syndrome" some things were way too overdone and it took away from the feel of the movie. And with a running time of 120 minutes or so, it really hurt, there were some parts that you wanted them to go into and didn't and then some parts that you really didn't want to see again, and they kept doing the same things, the movie was not boring, but there were too many parts that were overdone and silly. (1/2)

   Final Score: 3 1/2 out of 5

Final Thoughts: One of my favorite Bond movies, just because the fact that Hugo Drax is so incredibly cool. Granted, there was nothing great about this movie, but the scifi look and the insane villain just made this movie awesome. This movie is not for everyone though, you pretty much have to like James Bond, you don't have to be a huge fan of the series, but you do have to like those kinds of movies.
