Mrs.
Henderson Presents

Starring: Judi Dench and Bob
Hoskins
Directed by: Stephen Frears
Rated R
Synopsis: Based on the true story
of a recent widow Mrs. Laura Henderson buying a theater to occupy her time
during World War II and the tribulations and triumphs of the Windmill
Theater in London. And the story of how she raised the spirits (and other
things) of soldiers during this difficult time.
My Thoughts: This movie was absolutely
golden. And very tasteful, even when there is nudity.
Scorecard:
Acting: Judi
Dench did a great job. I have not seen her in too many movies, but I
really enjoyed her acting. Bob Hoskins also did a really good job. They
both had very good chemistry together, and the movie just clicked right. (1)
Direction:
Since this was based on a true story, it is kind of hard to screw up on
the direction of the movie, that is unless you are Michael Bay making a
movie about a certain bombing of a certain harbor in Hawaii. The direction
of this movie was excellent, having not seen too many of Stephen Frears
movies, I was very satisfied with it. (1)
Story: Like I
said above, its based on a true story, so it really should have been
written well, and it was. I really didn't have that many complaints about
the movie, other than a few very slow spots. (1)
Expectations:
This movie looked decent enough when I saw previews for it, but it really
turned out to be so much more than that. (1)
Boring?: This
movie was 105 minutes long (give or take a couple of minutes), and at some
parts, it really seemed like it was longer. This is the section that
always seems to hurt movies. (1/2)
Final Score: 4
1/2 out of 5
Final Thoughts: This movie
was a real joy to watch. Dench and Hoskins did great jobs in their
respective roles, the story was right on, the writing was dead on, even
with some quaint and very subtle jokes, this movie has one of my highest recommendations.
