Primal Fear

Starring: Richard Gere and
Edward Norton
Directed by: Gregory Hoblit
Rated R
Genre: Drama
Synopsis: A hot shot lawyer
is hired to defend a young man accused of murdering a priest.
My Thoughts: This was Edward
Norton's first major Hollywood role, and he came out swinging. He was
nominated for best supporting actor, and should have won it to in my
opinion.
Scorecard
Acting- Richard Gere is the
attorney that can do no wrong, he is hired to defend clients that no one
else would take, and he is known for getting usually guilty people acquittals.
Gere isn't known for his great acting skills, but in this movie, he did a
great job with his character. Edward Norton plays a young alter boy that
has been accused of murdering an arch bishop, he has problems remembering
if he did it or not. The acting was phenomenal from Norton and very good
from Gere. (1)
Direction- This movie went right
where it should have. With a twist at the end that just makes you love
movies all the more! (1)
Story- A poor young alter boy is
caught up in some sick things with an arch bishop. The bishop ends up
dead, and the boy is found with blood all over him, he is accused of
murder, a popular lawyer takes his case and believes everything that the
boy tells him. Brilliant writing and a very good story. (1)
Expectations- I really was
hoping this movie was fantastic, and it was, but it did not surpass the
expectations I had for it. (1/2)
Boring?- With a running time of
about 130 minutes, this movie has a few spots that are dead, but not a
lot, if this was cut down to about 125 minutes, it would have been that
much better, but it wasn't. (1/2)
Final Score: 4
out of 5
Final Thoughts: I loved this
movie. The twist at the end was great, while it doesn't really catch you
off guard like most great twists do, it is the perfect ending to this
movie. If you have not seen it, and love court room dramas, this movie
should be on the top of your list.
