Return to Oz
Starring:
Fairuza Balk
Directed by:
Walter Murch
Rated PG
Original Release Year:
1985
Genre: Family
Synopsis:
Dorothy Gale is back and she must return to Oz to help bring order back to
the land.
My Thoughts:
This movie has no business being called a family movie. There are far too
many scary parts for children, heck, I saw this movie when I was 24 and I
am still creeped out with some of the parts in it.
Scorecard
Acting-
Fairuza Balk is Dorothy Gale, and does an okay job, with nothing too
exciting or great with her character, she pulls off the character she was
given well enough to keep the film flowing. (1/2)
Direction-
Walter Murch is a very talented film editor and cinematographer, but when
you try and direct a movie, you are going to fail miserably, and that is
what happened here. I was not impressed with the way this director had the
film flow, and I was very depressed with the way he included some
characters that were really unneeded. (0)
Story-
Dorothy is believed to have gone crazy, so she is taken to an electroshock
therapist, but she manages to get away just in time and she ends up in the
wacky world of Oz again, this time she does not have her dog Toto with
her, she is carrying a zany new sidekick in a chicken. Not just any
chicken...the worlds most annoying chicken. It seemed that the Token
Chicken was just added to state the obvious, but she actually had a
purpose towards the end of the film, a purpose that was not explained in
the least, which made it worse. This story was terrible, plain and simple.
(0)
Expectations-
I heard nothing but bad things about this movie, and I understand why. I
was expecting a bad movie, and that is what I got. (1/2)
Boring?-
YES, god YES, this movie was so incredibly dull I had my eyes rolling in
the back of my head at times. There was nothing remotely redeeming about
this film. The story dragged, the characters made you want to club baby
seals, and everything was just bad. (0)
Final Score:
1 out of 5
Final Thoughts:
There was nothing great about this movie, I blame Steve and Jim for making
me watch this film, and I promise to get them both back in due time. Do
Not See This Movie, unless you really enjoy creepy kiddie movies that
don't make a whole lot of sense.
