Starring: Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Spacey, Gwyneth Paltrow

 Directed by: David Fincher

 Rated R

 Genre: Suspense

Synopsis: Two detectives are in search of a bizarre serial killer who fashions his murders on the seven deadly sins.

My Thoughts: This wasn't just an ordinary police/serial killer movie. The acting was unbelievably great from everyone, the story was very entertaining and the whole idea of the movie was just awesome.

 Scorecard:

Acting- Brad Pitt in arguably his best acting job did an excellent job as Detective Mills as he plays the brash and sort of stuck up/"I am better than you" type cop, he is paired up with Morgan Freeman who plays Lt. Somerset, the intelligent and  analytical detective. Freeman is one of the best actors these days, and this movie shows it, he doesn't have to do much to get into his roles, although a lot of his roles are the same, he plays the part very well. Kevin Spacey plays John Doe the serial killer who kills his victims by using the seven deadly sins which are...Gluttony, Envy, Greed, Sloth, Lust, Pride, and Wrath. John Doe is a very interesting character, especially since there have been so many "cool" killers out in movieland, such as Hannibal Lector, but John Doe personifies the complete whack-job killer, he is totally insane, but at the same time brilliant, but unlike Lector, John Doe is humanized because you can sort of understand why he does some of his brutal murders. I wish I could give this section higher than a one because the acting was phenomenal. (1)

Direction- The direction of this movie was a little suspect. Director David Fincher (the same guy that did Fight Club) really didn't need to direct this movie in any direction, because the story carried itself all the way to the end, and the actors really carried this movie. I cannot rightfully give the full credit to the director because he really didn't have much to do with the success of the movie. (1/2)

Story- John Doe is one of my favorite characters from the movies. While he is insane, you can really understand what the point of all his killings are. And just the whole idea of a killer killing because people are going against the seven deadly sins is just cool. (1)

Expectations- When I first saw this movie, I expected a whole lot because it was hyped to be the new Silence of the Lambs. It was NO Silence of the Lambs, but it was still a very good movie. (1/2)

Boring?- This movie keeps you entertained for the whole two hours. While it doesn't really keep you on the edge of your seat, it definitely keeps you from sitting all the way back in your chair. (1)

Final Score: 4 out of 5

Final Thoughts: This movie was almost on par with my favorite crazy killer movies Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs. This is number three on the list of best suspense movies in the last 20 years. If you haven't seen it before, be warned there are a few graphic scenes, so don't let anyone that is scared easily see it, but I do encourage you to give it a chance. If you have already seen it before, go out and watch it again, this movie is better the second time around. You may be mad at the ending, but just remember...its a movie.
