Jackal
Starring: Bruce Willis and
Richard Gere
Directed by: Michael Caton-Jones
Rated R
Genre: Action
Synopsis: The Jackal is the
worlds greatest assassin, and he has been called in to assassinate a top
government official. The FBI has been trying to track him down, but to no
avail, the decide to get a former IRA agent out of prison to help track
the Jackal down before it is too late.
My Thoughts: Sure, just by
reading the synopsis of the movie, it sounds generic, and nothing too
exciting, but with two actors that are on top of their games, this movie
is just plain awesome.
Scorecard:
Acting-
Bruce Willis plays the Jackal, who is a hired assassin, we follow him as
he goes everywhere, never looking like the same person, some of the
characters the Jackal makes up are great, Richard Gere plays a former
Irish assassin that is talked into tracking the Jackal by the FBI. Both do
a great job in their respective characters. (1)
Direction-
To be honest I really don't like the movies Caton-Jones puts out. He did
Doc Hollywood which was bad, and City by the Sea which was bad and Basic
Instinct 2, which I haven't seen, and really don't want to. So he does not
have a good track record. But, there was some direction to this movie, at
least it wasn't all over the place. Nothing great or anything, but at
least you can tell that there was some direction. (1/2)
Story-
Who hasn't heard this story before? A killer being tracked down my a
reformed killer. It is generic, but this movie pulled away from keeping
the same boring story, by actually putting effort into it. The ending
wasn't all that great, but it really didn't take that much away from the
movie. (1)
Expectations-
I was a HUGE Bruce Willis fan when this movie came out in 1997. I was
hoping that it would be his greatest. While not a huge success in the box
office, it held its own, there weren't a whole lot of expectations, but I
got a good movie at least. (1/2)
Boring?-
The movie as a whole really wasn't boring, but there were a few parts that
were incredibly dull, while it didn't hurt the movie a lot, it dragged it
down just enough not to get a full star here. (1/2)
Final Score: 3
1/2 out of 5
Final Thoughts: This movie
was awesome when I first saw it. Even today when I watch it again, I am
still entertained by it. This movie is not a masterpiece by any means, but
is a good movie.
