The Man with the Golden Gun

 Starring: Roger Moore

 Directed by: Guy Hamilton

 Rated PG

 Genre: Action

 Original Release Year: 1974

Synopsis: An infamous hitman with incredible shooting skills has his sights solely on James Bond.

My Thoughts: Right from the get go of this film it is different. Most Bond films start with James Bond on a mission, but this one is different, it starts with the main villain going through a training course, with him training to kill James Bond. Different isn't always good.

   Scorecard

Acting- Roger Moore returns as James Bond after his awful stint in Live and Let Die, but this time he seems more comfortable in the role and does a very good job with the Bond he is given. The main villain of this film is Francisco Scaramanga played by the legendary Christopher Lee (most people will know him from the two recent Star Wars movies in which he plays Count Dooku or the Lord of the Ring movies in which he plays Saruman). Lee does an amazing job as a villain for James Bond, and meshed well with Moore. (1)

Direction- Guy Hamilton's last Bond film did not let down. The direction of this movie was very well done, there were little if any holes worth mentioning, the film flowed very well, and he got really good performances out of Roger Moore and Christopher Lee. (1)

Story- A high priced assassin is out to kill James Bond. MI6 hears about this, so they send Bond on vacation, of course Bond doesn't take this laying down, so he goes out to find this assassin, before the assassin finds him. Really entertaining story, and it was very well written. Although, I could have done without NickNack the annoying midget sidekick of Scaramanga, but since that lousy sidekick was such an significant part of the movie, it took away from the overall product in my eyes. (1/2)

Expectations- I was expecting this movie to be better than the previous film, just because the Bond franchise couldn't survive if it was as bad. Luckily, this film was better. (1/2)

Boring?-  The overall movie as a whole was not boring, but there were a few crucial moments of the movie that were very dull and it hurt the flow of the film. (1/2)

   Final Score: 3 1/2 out of 5

Final Thoughts: Roger Moore finally steps up as Bond, and does a good job in my eyes. This film is not a great movie by normal standards, but is a pretty good Bond movie with lots of action, a pretty good story and a pretty darn evil bad guy, but sadly, you will most likely only enjoy this movie if you are a Bond fan.
