Thunderball

 Starring: Sean Connery

 Directed by: Terence Young

 Rated PG

 Genre: Action

 Original Release Year: 1965

Synopsis: SPECTRE is back, this time their evil plan is to hijack two nuclear bombs and hold to world hostage, it is up to James Bond to stop them.

My Thoughts: With a great roll of James Bond movies, this surely couldn't be that bad could it?

   Scorecard

Acting- Sean Connery is back as 007, and  really does a half-assed job. Connery seems very pedestrian in his role and he didn't seem thrilled to be there. But it is Sean Connery, how bad could it seriously be? (1/2)

Direction- The direction was a little iffy. There was a lot of amazing underwater shots, and they were all really cool, but in my opinion, they spent too much time underwater. It was cool, but it was too long. There were some holes in the direction and a few continuity problems, but other than those problems that really hurt the movie, nothing was terrible. (1/2)

Story- The general premise of the film was a good idea. That's where everything ends. This story was shaky at best, and down right bad at worse. While I did like the addition to "Number 2" Emilio Largo, that is the only great part of the story. This movie was the first Bond film that was completely eye candy. (1/2)

Expectations- After two great Bond movies in a row, this movie really had a lot to live up to, and it sadly didn't live up to what it should have. (0)

Boring?- This movie relied too much on the eye candy and not enough on the story. The overly long sequences of underwater action really hurt the flow of the film. This movie was only 125 minutes long, but it really felt longer than that. While it was not a task to get through, there was just something about watching it that really felt like it was difficult to watch. (0)

   Final Score: 1 1/2 out of 5

Final Thoughts: Thunderball was scheduled to be the very first Bond movie. If it had been, they would have gotten off on the wrong foot. I am glad that they did this movie, because it set up for some better movies down the road, but there was nothing great about this film, other than setting up for later movies. This movie is ONLY for serious Bond fans.
