V for Vendetta
Starring: Natalie Portman and
Hugo Weaving
Directed by: James McTeigue
Rated R
Genre: Action
Synopsis: In the not so
distant future, a totalitarian government has its residents living in
fear, until a freedom fighter/terrorist 'V' shows up and literally all
hell breaks loose.
My Thoughts: I really enjoyed
this movie, even for a terrorist to win, this movie was very enjoyable.
The action was fun to watch, the story was intriguing enough to keep you
wanting more.
Scorecard:
Acting-
Natalie Portman plays Evey a very mild mannered young lady, she is out one
evening and gets ambushed by two police officers up to no good, she is
saved by V played by Hugo Weaving a knife wielding maniac in a mask. They
both did great jobs in their respective roles, I think that Stephen Rea as
Inspector Finch and John Hurt as the Chancellor were both the highlights
of this movie. Rea plays Inspector Finch who is struggling with what is
good for the government and its people, while Hurt plays the evil
dictorial Chancellor was awe inspiring as he played the guy you just
wanted to die. (1)
Direction-
I really liked the flow to this movie. There was nothing wrong about the
direction this movie went either, it went exactly where it should have.
Impressive work for a first time director. (1)
Story-
Tons of people hated the idea of a political movie like this, and I can
personally see why they wouldn't like the idea of being all political. I
in fact really enjoyed it, the whole freedom fighter wanting to over throw
the government was very entertaining. I really just like the whole V
character. I liked even more that they never showed his face, keeping to
the fact that it wasn't really the person, but more the idea. (1)
Expectations-
I was hoping this movie turned out excellent. It turned out to be really
good, not excellent. (1/2)
Boring?-
This movie has a running time of 132 minutes, I think that if they cut out
maybe ten minutes or fifteen minutes, this movie would have been less
boring at times. (1/2)
Final Score: 4
out of 5
Final Thoughts: If you have
not seen this movie, you really should. The message this movie sends
really hits home, while you really don't need to go out and over throw the
government, it does tell you that the government should be afraid of its
people, and that is so true. Go see it.
